This role will help drive the execution of Novartis’ ambition to turn data into strategic asset to drive actionable insights across the organization. This ambition is one of key pillars in the broader digital transformation happening at Novartis to be a focused medicines company powered by data and digital.
Within the the Commercial Data Domain this role is responsible for the design and implementation of Data Governance processes and Data Operating Model for the LDC Commercial Data Sub Domain in close collaboration with the Enterprise Data Owner (EDO) and team members for the LDC Commercial Data Sub Domain.
This role will focus on establishing and developing the Novartis data capability in collaboration with the functions and lead the implementation within LDC scope.

About the Role

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Role is accountable for specific designated LDC Commercial Data area(s), and within such area(s):
    • Implement the data principles, data governance framework, data ownership and data operations.
    • Ensure adoption of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data solutions across legacy landscape to produce FAIR data at the source for the entities they own.
    • Responsible for gathering and implementing data requirements coming from Business Function (Domain Pillars in LDC projects), Commercial EDO and team and  other dependent projects / programs.
    • Ensure that all data ideas, concepts and features are validated with internal stakeholders from all levels of the business.
    • Facilitate cultural change by improving data literacy across the business through training, education and increasing data consumption.
    • Proactively identify data issues and work with stakeholders to investigate and implement corrective measures and seek opportunities to continuously improve the quality and integrity of the data asset.
    • Drives the transition into new ways of working defined by Enterprise Operating model per LDC Scope.
    • Manage data quality definition for the assigned data within the LDC Commercial Data team, and is accountable for delivering agreed level of data quality as outcome of the data lifecycle management process.

  • Be part of  a very highly complex program impacting all functions, business areas, countries and regions.
  • Identifying and managing the interdependencies across various functions, teams and programs of the relevant LDC Commercial Data entities as well as attributes or impact of non Commercial Data entities.
  • Ability to ensure alignment cross functions and consider dependencies between data set-up, system configuration, operational process design and reporting and analytics requirements.

Influence:

  • Stakeholder management at country / regional / global level.
  • Very large and geographically broad scope; very high change impact.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Business acumen: very good understanding of various worldwide data models in respective business units and divisions, required capabilities and operational pain points.
  • Curious and forward looking: looks for signals both inside and outside the company to identify new trends and future expectations.
  • Digital savvy: very good grasp of the impacts and opportunities of data and technology will create to Novartis.
  • Technical and process knowledge: knowledge and understanding of impact of data set-up and system configuration on operational processes and analytical capabilities.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education

  • Master’s university degree or higher.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in country and global Commercial / Master data management roles
  • Experience working in data and with system configuration workstreams, in ERP / systems implementations and / or global business transformations

LANGUAGES

  • English as a must and additional language(s) preferred.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

  • Being part of a very large program over 6+ years potentially in the magnitude of >500mUSD.

COMPETENCY PROFILE

  • Proven data, reporting, Commercial process and compliance or analytics experience possibly in a matrix style within a large, complex data landscape.
  • Experience in data governance/quality and regulatory regimes.
  • Experience in compliance and controls, design and execution.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration skills with proven speaking, presentation and facilitation experience in internal and external environments.
  • Able to leverage networks of professionals across functions and business areas.
  • Understands the competing organizational needs beyond own part of business.
  • Able to interpret complex information and to influence internal and external peers.
  • Role model for Novartis’ values and behaviours within the organization with ability to influence and motivate.
